  • Jon to perform benefit at Caffe Boa in Phoenia Arizona

    Tue, Apr 14 2009

Jon to perform at Caffe Boa in Phoenix Arizona for worthy charity with longtime friend Brooke McCloud:

This event was created to promote awareness and raise money for something I feel strongly about; the humane treatment of animals, especially dogs.

Some musician friends of mine and I are performing in support of this great cause. We will be playing on the back patio at Caffe Boa (www.caffeboa.com). If you haven't been here recently the atmosphere is very nice.

Don Santy will be returning to perform again. If you haven't heard Don play before it is a real treat. Don is a great guitarist and has incredible voice. He covers those selections of popular artists which are recognizable but more obscure.

The special guest star this year is my good friend Jon Dowling, recently hitting the charts with his single Out Of The Dark. Jon will be performing his original songs on the piano. As you can imagine he is a fantastic singer and musician and has his own sound. I like to refer to it as "The Hampton Beach Sound" because it has its own unique flavor I'm sure you will all enjoy.

Like last year, the benefit will operated a little differently than most charity events by design. There is no cover charge or plate fee; just tips and CD's sold during the event will be donated to the charity.

Caffe Boa however has graciously offered to donate a portion of the food & drink purchased at the event to our cause. So, just by eating or drinking you will be donating to our charity.

A small table will be set up with some informational pamphlets, a tip jar and the artists personal CD's we will be selling for the cause.

We will be playing for a charitable organization called 'Last Chance For Animals' (www.lcanimal.org). LLA - is responsibile for enacting legislation for banning dog fighting and shutting down puppy mills.

If you're in the Phoenix area we'd love to have you come down and check out this rare solo performance for Jon. Jon will be performing three sets of his music, featuring songs from his first CD The Second Time Around, to his current CD and including six brand new songs from his upcoming CD Long Days Long Nights.

  • Jon receives press at Independent Music Network by vaunted journalist Ralph Benner

    Thu, Nov 20 2008

    Meet Jon Dowling

Not just another singer-songwriter but a modern day poet who was touched by an angel…
    by Ralph Benner

When Jon Dowling was only 14 years old, he wanted to be a drummer. He entered a contest and during his performance, he lost control of his stick and it hit one of the judges in the face. Undaunted, he picked up the stick and completed his number. He finished last, but never lost another contest. That mistake made him stronger and he credits a guardian angel with his success in life.

His latest album "Trials and Tribulations" is a tribute to Jon's determination to be one of the best singers in America. Not only has he moved to Los Angeles where most of the action is, he's working with a trainer to tone up his already fit body. His first single, "Out of the Dark" is making positive moves on the charts.

Raised in the East, Jon recently journeyed by car from the East Coast to California with his lawyer-wife who works in Beverly Hills. "That trip was amazing," Jon recalls. "The people in the Midwest were so cordial. My favorite states were Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. But I think my favorite place in the United States is Hampton Beach, New Hampshire which is about 45 minutes from Boston."

Now that he lives in LA, Jon's idea of a perfect day is exercising on the basketball court and then driving up the Pacific Coast highway to watch a California sunset. Unfortunately, Jon doesn't get the chance to have a perfect day very often. He's usually hard at work on his music. His most prized possessions are his musical instruments which include drums and a piano.

Choosing show business as a profession can give a man like Jon some frustrating moments, since he tends to dislike non-listeners and hypocrites, but his best qualities are persistence and overcoming adversity. All in all Jon's a well rounded talent bound for success.

A few quick Q and A's that reveal Jon's personality:

Q: What are you afraid of doing?
A: Riding on a roller coaster

Q: If you had to give the same gift to everyone you know for Christmas, what would it be?
    A: Free house cleaning

Q: If you could open and run any kind of a restaurant any where, what kind of food would you serve and where?
A: American Italian in a bakery like place in West Springfield

    Name Your Favorite:
Actor: Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks
    Actress: Ann-Margret
    Animal: Golden Retriever
Food: Honey Baked Fried Chicken and Filet Mignon
    Holiday: Christmas

Q: If you were invited to the White House for dinner, what would you wear?
A: A tuxedo by Christian Dior

Q: If you could have composed any single piece of music that already exists, where would you choose?
A: End of the Innocence by Don Henley

    Q: Eliminate one season
    A: Winter

Q: If you were to be successful in another profession, what would you want it to be?
A: Sports and business marketing. I always had a hard time choosing in school what I liked best…sports or music. My coach told me that if I had the same passion for sports that I had for music I'd be a great athlete…so I chose music.

Jon's top personal goals in life are to become an internationally acclaimed musician, a good father and husband and a loyal friend.

  • Jon’s newest CD Receives Rave Reviews

    Wed, Nov 19 2008

For those of you who have already picked up Jon's newest CD "Trials & Tribulations", which is available exclusively at Best Buy Stores nationally, as well as a whole host of online locations, such as CD Baby, Best Buy online, i tunes, Amazon.com, Rhapsody, Neilsen, Soundscan as well as at Jon's official website www.jondowling.com you are already aware of the quality of Jon's music and overall performance. This week Jon received a very favorable review via Loosey Lucy's music headquarters:

     Reviews

Jon Dowling - Trials and Tribulations

Jon Dowling's Trials and Tribulations is a beautifully arranged collection of pop rock piano songs. The album starts strong with the powerful, Bruce Hornsby-influenced single, "Out of the Dark." "Here to Stay" has soulful lead and background vocals with an amazing piano solo by Philippe Saisse. The energetic, "The Second Time Around," and the slower paced, "All Things Considered," are great pop rock tunes with catchy melodies. The introspective, "Reason for the Season," is sewn together with thoughtful lyrics and a memorable piano hook. Lyrically, Jon Dowling is not your typical pop rocker. He tackles lifes problems with meaningful themes. "Proud Worker" is a tribute to all of the hard-working people of America. "Highway in My Mind" is empowering, and "The Likes of You," with its driving beat, is a song about people that put other people down and what to do to overcome the hurt.  Jon does also have his lighter side. "Stress Sandwich" will have you dancing your cares away. Overall, excellent album!!!

Our personal thanks go out to Mary Lemanski, Editor in Chief of Loosey Lucy's Headquarters. You can learn more about her organization at: www.looseylucy.com

Feel free to post your own personal review of Jon's music, both her at his my space official page, as well as at his official swbsite, or at any of the fine websites that carry his music listed above.

  • Jon’s music featured on popular online indie radio station

    Tue, Jul 22 2008

As you all know, Jon's single "Out of the Dark" will be released on commercial radio beginning next Friday. Jon received an early boost to his campaign through the efforts of DJ Jody Dickey, owner and Chief Operator of a popular online radio station in the Midwest entitled, "Rockin Roundup Rodeo", based out of Illinois.

The station as you might imagine by the name connotates more of a country element to the music Jody spins traditionally, however Jody does play artists of other genres and she chose Jon's music as a featured spotlight on Tuesday evening's show. Jody's station reaches thousands of listeners, both nationally, as well as worldwide and she plays routinely five hundred deserving independent artists on a regular rotation.

Jody's response and the response of many of her listener's to Jon's music was enthusiastic, saying: "Jon has a great voice and powerful lyrics and melodies, along with very competent piano skills and is extremely radio friendly, as well as versatile in sound. Jon's music contains messages of hope and inspiration, designed to reach broad ranging audience for many years to come."

If you'd like to learn more about Jody Dickey and her radio station and some of the other great artists the she plays on her show, please visit her online at www.rockinrounduprodeo.com. Jody works solely off donations and does not take on corporate sponsors, in an effort to give as much time to worthy independent artists and support them on their way to success.
